Giacinto: Generalities

The etymology of the term (the root giak in Greek means dark red) supports the hypothesis according to which in origin the hyacinth was, probably, of red color. This flower was dear to many ancient poets, including Pliny, Virgil and Theocritus, who often cited the flower in their verses. In Italy the hyacinth bulb came for the first time in the late 1500s from Western Asia. Precious is its essence, with the
which has always produced a delicious and highly sought after perfume.
The meanings attributed to the flower are different and vary depending on the color: for example the red hyacinth is a symbol of pain, the blue one of coherence.
In general, however, hyacinth represents play and fun.
